A man has pleaded guilty to five charges under the Computer Misuse Act after hacking police and university websites
The 21-year-old admitted taking the Kent Police and Oxford and Cambridge University websites offline for more than three hours.
He used an alias to conceal his intently and managed to cause disruption to the public facing websites by overwhelming them with requests for information.
Kent Police said the man was charged following an investigation by its Special Branch Investigations Team and the Kent Police Digital Forensic Unit who raided his home and seized computer equipment in 2012.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Richards of Kent Police said: “The attack on the Kent Police website resulted in access being temporarily unavailable to the public. There was no compromise or access to the website”
“Anyone who thinks of carrying out these types of attacks will be tracked down and brought before the courts to face the consequence of their actions.”
